Apart from the presentation of the Union Budget and the Railway Budget, the coming session of Parliament beginning on Friday is to see introduction, consideration and passage of some other important Bills.
Among the priority Bills for consideration and passing during the Budget session include the Securities Contracts (Regulation) Amendment Bill, the Communal Violence Bill, the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Amendment Bill and the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr P.R. Dasmunshi, told newspersons here.
The Bills for introduction, consideration and passing include four replacing ordinances on various issues including the mandatory sharing of sports signals, banking regulations and the national tax tribunal.
On priority basis
The major legislations to be introduced on a priority basis include the Welfare and Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Bill, the Micro-Financial Sector (Development and Regulation) Bill, the Drugs Authority Bill, the National Rural Employment Guarantee (Amendment) Bill and the Indian Maritime University Bill.
Other Bills include the Unorganised Workers Social Security Bill, the Airports (Economic Regulatory Authority) Bill, the Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operations, Maintenance of Quality and Prevention of Commercialisation) Bill as also the Wildlife Protection (Amendment) Bill.
The Budget session would begin with the address of the President, Mr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, to both Houses, the Railway Budget would be tabled on February 26, Economic Survey on February 27 and General Budget on February 28.
With the announcement of Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, some changes in the schedule of the Budget session appear imminent.
Demand for re-scheduling
A meeting convened on Thursday by the Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr Somnath Chatterjee, with the leaders of various political parties saw a unanimous demand for re-scheduling the session.
The Minister later told newspersons that he would prepare a tentative proposal to re-schedule the session in consultation with the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and the Leader of Lok Sabha, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, for finalisation by the Business Advisory Council.
