Coimbatore, Feb. 23

The Wipro Chairman, Mr Azim Premji, on Friday confirmed that the company's project in Coimbatore would become operational within a year of assigning the land. He told Business Line that while the Government had expressed intention of allotting 10 acres of land to Wipro in the site identified within the Government Medical College, the land was yet to be assigned. He is expecting the assignment to happen either on Saturday, when the State Chief Minister Mr M. Karunanidhi lays the foundation stone for the Government mooted IT park here. `All these formalities should be over within a week,' he said and added that the company would start work immediately thereafter. Mr Premji is confident of getting the structure ready within 12 months of assigning the land. Wipro is planning to set up both - a software centre and BPO unit here.
