The annual Plan of Orissa for 2007-08 has been pegged at Rs 5,105 crore, inclusive of additional Central assistance of Rs 80 crore for projects of special interest to the State.
This was decided at a meeting here between the Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the State Chief Minister, Mr Navin Patnaik.
Mr Ahluwalia, while praising the distinct fiscal improvement notched up by the State, pointed out that Orissa holds the promise to go for higher plan size for the Eleventh Plan. He said infrastructure development, indispensable for attracting investments, should be given priority and private sector participation should be encouraged.
The State needs to work on improving rural infrastructure and expand outlays on rural infrastructure and agriculture. There is also a need for further expanding tourism and the State Government should work towards developing tourism-related infrastructure, the Plan panel members felt.
The Chief Minister, Mr Patnaik, said that the State would aim at achieving higher growth with greater accent on human resource development during the 11th Plan period.
