Tea Prices steady at Kochi tea sale Our Bureau
Good general demand propped up the price of dust tea varieties at the Kochi tea auction. Price of medium and below medium CTC varieties gained by Rs 2-4 . Orthodox high grown broken and medium varieties were dearer by Rs 3-5 . Dust generally witnessed good support from major blenders as well as the loose tea trade. There was 8,51,000 kg of dust tea on offer. Best CTC varieties fetched Rs 63-78, medium CTC was at Rs 50-60, and below medium at Rs 44-46. High grown BOPD fetched Rs 96-125, medium BOPD Rs 45-50 and secondaries were at Rs 40-44.
Leaf sale
Orthodox leaf grades were steady to firm at the leaf tea auction which had 3,55,000 kg on offer. Mediums were also steady following quality. CTC varieties found a good market. Exporters operated mainly on good quality, high grown and medium orthodox grades. Best Nilgiri varieties fetched Rs 85-150, medium orthodox realised Rs 43-70, while plain orthodox was not quoted. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 50-53 and medium CTC leaf Rs 46-50.
