Sheet rubber prices improve

Kottayam Feb. 23 Spot rubber showed a mixed trend on Friday. Select grades firmed up marginally on weekend covering purchases catalysed by positive reports from the overseas markets.

Sheet rubber improved by 25 paise to Rs 96.75 a kg at Kottayam, while the grade remained unchanged at Rs 97 a kg at Kochi. Ungraded rubber also improved by 50 paise following enquires from the non-tyre sector. The volumes were low.

Futures decline

The rubber futures declined even against a better TOCOM closing. The March contract on NMCE moved down to Rs 96.97 (Rs 98.36), April to Rs 102.40 (Rs 104.10), May to Rs 106.65 (Rs 108.25) and June to Rs 109.90 (Rs 111.41) a kg for RSS 4. The total transactions were 2,353 (2,104) lots and open interest 15,328 (15,256) lots. The market is now controlled exclusively by domestic fundamental factors, sources said.

The March contract finished weak at Rs 97.70 a kg against Rs 98.73 on MCX.

RSS 3 (spot) closed better at Rs 106.86 against Rs 106.21a kg at Bangkok. The March futures for the grade also improved to 271.3 Yen (Rs 98.89) a kg from 267.50Yen at TOCOM.

Spot rubber prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 96.75 (96.50); RSS-5: 94 (94); Ungraded: 92.50 (92); ISNR 20: 92 (92) and Latex 60 per cent: 64.20 (64.70).
