Hyderabad Feb 23 Spandana, a non-profit organisation set up by Mr N. Prasad, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Matrix Laboratories, has joined hands with Care Hospitals for helping children suffering from heart problems.

Speaking to newspersons on Friday, Mr Prasad said that the organisation would donate Rs 1 crore for Little Hearts Fund, a fund floated by Care Hospital for conducting surgeries on children.

Mr Prasad said that about 400 children would benefit from the gesture. Each such procedure would be eligible for Rs 25,000, meeting part of the cost of surgery. Dr Krishna Reddy of Care Hospital said that there was a gap of Rs 40,000 for conducting the surgeries.

While the Government part-funded such surgeries, the hospital waived costs of procedure. But the cost of inputs had become a problem.

"Contributions like these would go a long way in treating more children suffering from heart problems," he said.

Dr B. Soma Raju, Chairman and Managing Director of Care Hospital, said that there was a proposal to launch an assistance programme for poor adult patients in need of bypass surgery.
