January crude output up 4.7%

New Delhi Feb. 23 The country's crude oil output increased by 4.7 per cent in January compared with the corresponding period last year. However, the natural gas output fell by 1.2 per cent to 2.749 billion cubic metres during the month under review.

Exploration companies produced 2.9 million tonnes (mt) of crude oil compared with 2.77 mt a year earlier. One tonne of crude oil is equal to 7.33 barrels of oil.

As per the data released by the Petroleum Ministry, output from ONGC's Mumbai High offshore went up by 13.2 per cent to 1.58 mt from 1.40 mt in the corresponding month last year. As per the data crude oil production from private and joint venture companies dropped by 4 per cent to 389,000 tonnes in January.

On the refinery front, the domestic refineries process 9 per cent more crude oil in January as demands rose.
