Pune Feb. 23 SKF India, manufacturer of technology and solutions provider of bearings, seals and related products, on Friday announced the launch of its power transmission products in the Indian market. This was announced here today by Mr Rakesh Makhjia, Managing Director, SKF India Ltd, and Mr Phil Knights, President AB SKF Service Division.

Mr Rakesh said the products include timing belts, v-belts, chains, couplings, sprockets and pulleys.

It would be launching about 12,500 products under these categories during the first phase and about 20,000 items by the second year.

He said SKF would not enter into manufacturing of these products but would source them from global vendors.

Mr Rakesh said SKF India would focus on the existing verticals such as cement, steel, paper, textile and machine tool segment to promote these products. The power transmission products would be made available to customers by April, he said.

Mr Rakesh said the products have been launched in the Indonesian market last week and there are already about 6,000 items in the Singapore market and about 8,000 in the European market.

He pointed out that the power transmission market was similar to the bearing market which was valued at about Rs 1,000 crore.

Expansion plans

Commenting on SKF India, he said the company is investing about Rs 100 crore over the next 18 months in three facilities, two in Bangalore and one in Pune. He said in Pune it would be increasing its capacity for ball bearings from 100 million units to 110 million units per annum and tape bearings from 18 million units to 22 million units.

Looking at the future growth of the company, Mr Rakesh said currently about 90 per cent of the business came in from the bearings segment, five per cent from seals and the balance from lubricating, services and mechatronics. He was estimating the ratio to change to 80 per cent for bearings and 10 per cent for seals.

He said it would be increasing the after market reach and would be introducing new products which include valve stern seals, magnetic seals, railway seals etc. He added that it was targeting 30 per cent of revenue to come in from exports from the present eight per cent turnover from exports. However, he did not give a timeframe by which this would be achieved.
