An agreement to this effect has been signed between the US-based Anheuser-Busch International, its brewer, and Crown Beers Ltd of Hyderabad. From May 2007, Budweiser would be available in 330 ml and 650 ml bottles. A 5,00,000 hectolitres, modern brewery in Hyderabad would be ready for production in March. Trials runs are already underway, according to officials of Crown Beers. Anheuser-Busch and Crown Beers will have 50:50 joint venture, which will brew, market and distribute Budweiser and other brands in India. Crown Beers India Ltd will collaborate on all local management, marketing and sales decisions, according to a press release from the St Louis-based beer major. ``The Hyderabad brewery was designed to uphold Anheuser-Busch's high standard of quality for brewing Budweiser,'' said Mr Srikanth M. Reddy, Joint Managing Director of Crown Breweries Ltd. An Anheuser-Busch brewmaster will oversee local production of Budweiser at the brewery, to assure the same crisp, distinctive taste enjoyed by consumers around the world. Budweiser is an American lager brewed since 1876 using a blend of US and European hops, and a combination of barley malts and rice, the release added. Interestingly, the top brass of Anheuser-Busch, led by Mr Stephen J. Burrows (CEO and President), Mr Andrew Day and Mr Mark Shumm had met the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, here during July 2006 to discuss the brewery project. They also held discussions with the promoters of Crown Breweries on the possibilities of contract-manufacturing Budweiser in the State. Andhra Pradesh, the country's leading beer market, has also attracted another major brewer the Singapore-based Asia Pacific Breweries (APB). APB Ltd announced plans last year to invest about $15 million in a greenfield brewery outside Hyderabad with a capacity of 2,50,000 hectolitres, through a joint venture with the New Delhi-based, Jaipuria Beverages & Food Industries Ltd.
