Mumbai Feb. 24 The Mumbai-based RPG Enterprises said it intends to set up a 2,000-MW thermal power plant at an investment of Rs 10,000 crore.

The industrial conglomerate, which has more than 20 companies in seven business areas, would set up the thermal power plant in West Bengal, Jharkhand or Orissa within the next three years, Mr Harsh Goenka, Chairman, RPG Enterprises, told Business Line. ``We expect to sign a purchase agreement with one of the State Governments by fiscal 2007-2008," he said.

RPG's involvement in the power sector covers generation and distribution of power. It would either float a new company or use the group's power arm, CESC Ltd, to set up the plant, Mr Goenka said.

``The power plant would be part-funded by a combination of equity and debt,'' he said, adding that the company might scout for a possible partnership for value addition to the power project.
