Supply Chain Management Australia commits $1.6 m for logistics
A MILE-AND-a-half long freight train in Australia... The country is moving towards a new reform agenda for the transport sector.
The Australian Government has committed $1.6 million to the country's freight and logistics sector over the next four years. This was announced by Australia's acting Prime Minister, who is also the Minister for Transport & Regional Services, recently. To support the freight and logistics industry, the Australian Government, according to the Minister, is looking to build better transport infrastructure and deliver a new national reform agenda for the transport sector. In Australia, a review of the logistics and transport sector is conducted every four years. The latest review, completed recently, concludes that a new strategy under the leadership of the Australian Logistics Council should be formulated in 2007 for implementation through 2010. The council has estimated the logistics sector's contribution to GDP at $95 billion, or 14.8 per cent.
