New Delhi Feb. 25 Demanding additional budgetary allocations for basic healthcare in the country in the Budget, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) has projected that 300 more urban health and family welfare centres need to be set up every year to cater to an estimated 215 million urban poor population by 2020.

The existing 1,083 urban family welfare centres are meant to take care of 2.6 lakh urban patients while their effective serving rate turns out to be 60,000 patients only, according to the chamber.

Around 30 per cent of urban dwellers are poor and this population is growing twice as fast as rest of the population, according to the chamber.
