AP Govt allocates 40 acres of land in Adibatla village

Hyderabad Feb.25 Cognizant Technology Solutions plans to invest up to Rs 330 crore in a major expansion project in Hyderabad. The Andhra Pradesh Government has allocated 40 acres of land in Adibatla village, in the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district, to facilitate this growth.

Cognizant India, based out of Chennai, plans to construct a fully owned, techno-complex, with 2 million sq.ft. and capacity to house over 12,000 employees by 2012. At present, the company has 2,250 employees operating out of its development centre in Hyderabad.

The Vice-Chairman, Cognizant, Mr Lakshmi Narayan, and the Andhra Pradesh Principal Secretary, IT Department, Ms Ratna Prabha, on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in the presence of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, for taking forward the growth plans and the land allocation.

At present, Cognizant has invested over Rs 35 crore and achieved a turnover of Rs 189 crore from its Hyderabad operations, which is focussed on providing IT solutions for global clients in financial, healthcare, media, entertainment, business consulting, etc.

Focus areas

In the expansion plan, the company want to focus on manufacturing, retail and telecom, and newer solutions such as BPO and IT infrastructure services. It has also committed to employ students of the Jawahar Knowledge Centre (JKC), run by the State Government, according to an official press release.

The AP Government wants to accelerate investments in the IT/ITES areas and wants greater geographical dispersion within the State, the release added.
