Andhra Pradesh will set up a special cell to monitor closely the public distribution system and prices of essential commodities and to take corrective steps, if need be.
At a review meeting held here on Sunday, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the Chief Minister, has asked the officials of Civil Supplies Department to give incentives to those who tipped them off illegal hoarding of essential commodities.
The officials had been asked to cancel the licences of the wholesale dealers if they crossed the prescribed stock limits.
CONTROL ORDER
It wanted the Union Government to extend the control order (on stocks) to be extended beyond February 28. The order mandated the dealers not to stock certain commodities beyond a certain limit.
Prices of essential commodities have shot up in the last few weeks. The Department had conducted nearly 900 raids on warehouses and godowns and booked 170 cases.
He also wanted the Commercial Taxes Department to keep tabs on the wholesale dealers and daal mill owners and ensure that they filed VAT (valued added tax) returns regularly.
