Tea CTC tea firm at Coimbatore auctions Our Bureau
Coimbatore, Feb. 26 Tea offerings dipped marginally from the previous week 5.21 lakh kgs to 5.15 lakh kgs last week. The quantity of leaf on offer increased to 2.39 lakh kgs (2.21 lakh kgs), but the dust volumes slipped to 2.76 lakh kgs (from 3 lakh kgs). There was a fair demand for the good liquoring well-made teas. Select invoices of orthodox leaf, particularly the Nilgiris whole leaf and larger leaf grades, sold at firm to occasionally dearer rates. The high growns witnessed a lower trend. CIS exporters picked the well-made teas, HLL operated on larger leaf grades, albeit selectively, while Iraq remained quiet. A few exporters lent support to orthodox dust grades.
HLL operation
The brighter liquoring CTC leaf grades witnessed some demand around last levels, while the mediums were sold at firm to dearer levels. HLL operated on smaller brokens. Internal buyers were otherwise selective. Popular and good liquoring CTC dust remained firm, medium plainer sorts quoted dearer by Re 1. Internal buyers were active on all categories. Tata and HLL operated on medium varieties. Exporters were selective, AVT and Indco picked the good liquoring teas. High grown orthodox teas ranged between Rs 80 and Rs 91, while the best CTC dusts quoted between Rs 59 and Rs 64.
