Mumbai Feb. 26 Asia Motor Works (AMW), player in the 49-tonne (gross vehicle weight — GVW) segment, plans to offer customised body applications such as a cement mixer, oil tanker, and so on for various industries such as steel, cement and oil. These offerings are most likely to be introduced in 2007-08.

Moreover, with customised body solutions, the company is taking the extra step to provide additional horsepower in the range of 235-300 hp, said Mr Anirudh Bhuwalka, Director, AMW.

The cement mixer or an oil tanker will be offered in tie-ups with leading body builders. Increase in horsepower will be available with the 49-tonne (35-tonne payload capacity) 4923 AMW model that is now available in the price range of Rs 22 - 27.5 lakh.

Each of these customised solutions will undergo the necessary homologation process to earn roadworthiness certificate.

Models unveiled

AMW introduced the 4923 model almost 10 months ago and has notched up sales of 500 units till date. For the next fiscal, it intends selling another 500 units. It has introduced five models inclusive of the 4923 model — the 4018 model (40-tonne-GVW), 2523 tipper model in box and rock options (25-tonne-GVW) and the 2518-tipper model (25- haulage tonne). The company intends selling around 1,000 units of all models for the next fiscal.

Sales, service network

For the calendar year 2007, the company plans to build up its sales and after-sales network. It has set up 23 dealerships (with 3S facilities - sales, service and spares) across the country with an additional set-up of 17 service stations to be completed by this year. A road map has been laid out to establish 30 main dealers and 450 sub-dealers in the near future. At present, the company has a service outlet every 400 km, which it intends to bring down to 200 km, said Mr Bhuwalka. AMW has already set up sales and service operations in Tamil Nadu, Vijayawada and Andhra Pradesh in the South, and intends to establish warehouses in southern and northern markets to stock spare parts.
