Coimbatore Feb. 26 The School of Hotel Management and Catering Science, VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science, and the Hospitality Educators and Recruiters Association (HERA) have jointly proposed to organise the `Hospitality Job Fair' on March 2 and 3 at the VLB campus here.

Claiming it to be the first job fair planned exclusively for the hospitality sector, the HERA Vice-President, Mr Ajeet Kumar Lal Mohan, said the organisers would use this platform to create awareness about the job opportunities and career growth prospects in the hospitality industry.

"Youngsters are lured by the pay packet in the BPO sector. They forget that after specialising in catering and hotel management, their growth prospects in the BPO sector is limited. A fair like this would help them look at the opportunities in their own area of specialisation," he said.

Annual event

About 35 leading hotels from across the country, including the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation, select hospitals and airlines are expected to participate in this event. "The applicants would be interviewed by the respective hoteliers and if found suitable would receive the `offer letter' almost immediately," Mr Lal Mohan said.

The organisers are expecting at least 10,000 candidates to appear during each day of the two-day fair. HERA is planning to make this an annual event, besides organising fairs in other cities too.

"We are planning to conduct one in Tiruchi and Madurai in the next round," Mr Lal Mohan said. According to him, the demand-supply gap in the hotel industry is widening because attrition rates are high, newer projects are coming up and trained persons leaving in search of better package and unrelated job offers.
