Classifying the Railway Budget for 2007-08 as pro-poor, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy said that though he welcomed measures such as across-the-table-reduction in fares of all classes and keeping the freight steady, he sought that all the MPs from the State should prevail upon the Railway Minister, Mr Lalu Prasad, to reconsider the demands of Andhra Pradesh.
This included sanctioning of new lines and introduction of new express and more passenger trains among other things.
He expressed his satisfaction over the announcement of a Garib Rath between Secunderabad and Yeshwantpur and also for agreeing to take up the Cuddapah-Bangalore new line, according to a press release here on Monday.
Mr Sudhir Sanghi, President, Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, also applauded the Railway Budget and welcomed the initiative of the Railway Ministry to have CCTV at major stations for security and safety. He complimented the Railway Minister for achieving a high surplus.
