Visakhapatnam, Feb. 26

Mr P. Janardhana Rao, of the Congress party, was elected the first Mayor of the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Monday, with the support of five Congress rebels and five independents. He said he would strive for the all-round, planned development of Visakhapatnam city, which is fast becoming a major industrial hub and IT centre.
