Railway Budget Web Extras - Industry Associations States - Tamil Nadu Rail budget: Chamber sore over neglect of Coimbatore Our Bureau
In a statement, Mr D. Balasundaram, President, ICCI, said the `dream of people' of this region of inclusion of Coimbatore-Dindigul segment for gauge conversion has not found a place in the Budget. When overall the performance of the Railways has been good, he felt that the city should have been given greater importance in providing infrastructural facilities.
He, however, welcomed the announcement to operate a daily train between Coimbatore and Nagercoil via Madurai and sparing the passenger and freight traffic from any rate increase.
Mr Jayakumar Ramdass, Chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Coimbatore zone, said the Budget would create a `win-win' situation for all the railways, wagon manufacturers, heavy industries and the common man. The feasibility study for high-speed passenger trains would encourage the industry to bring in the best technology available globally and the industry is upbeat about the possibility of designing and manufacturing high capacity, heavy axle load wagons with their own designs.
