Malaysia to open chain of kitchens

Malaysia has unveiled an innovative campaign to attract more tourists from India. It has decided to open a chain of kitchens in all major Indian cities, offering a wide variety of cuisine. The first in the series of `Little Penang' will come up in Hyderabad. "We will open the kitchens in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata in the next few months," Mr Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Malaysian Minister of Tourism, said.

The Minister, who is leading a delegation to major Indian cities, said his country had lined up 50 major events and 240 showcases this year marking the 50 years of its Independence. Also lined up for the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 is International Aerospace Exhibition, where the Russians would put on display the 10-storeyed high Buran space shuttle. "We are targeting 20.1 million tourists, including four lakhs from India, this year. By 2010, the number could grow to 24 million," the Minister said. Malaysia had also decided to promote the `Malaysia My Second Home' programme that offers 10-year multiple entry visa, stay and a variety of investment opportunities.
