Tier II B-school grads get 20% more pay

While the placement season at the IIMs is only now hotting up, top schools in the second rung have already wrapped up their campus recruitment processes. The average salary at these schools was around Rs 6 lakh per annum, a jump of about 20 per cent from last year and the highest hovering around Rs 10 lakh per annum.
At the ICFAI Business School in Bangalore, all 270 students have been placed in 65 companies at an average salary of Rs 5.5 lakh. The highest salary this year at the institute stood at Rs 10.3 lakh offered to three students by Spectrum Global Services, a financial services offshoring company. IT, banking, consulting and FMCGs were the main recruiters. "Another trend noticed this year is that the same companies have taken almost three times more people this year," says Prof Murali, Chairperson, Placement, The ICFAI Business School.
At the TA Pai Management Institute in Manipal, placements were concluded in a `few hours,' according to Prof. Raghunath Rudran, Chairman, Placements. A total of 142 companies participated and made 184 offers to 127 students.
The average salary at the institute this year was Rs 6.66 lakh, an increase of 16 per cent over the previous year. The highest salary was Rs 9.25 lakh (against Rs 7.75 lakh in 2006). Among the big recruiters are IT giants and BFSI firms: Cognizant (19 offers), Infosys (16), IBM (10), Irevna (7), Citigroup (6), HSBC Bank (5), and VSNL (5). All 360 students of the L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management, Mumbai and Bangalore, were placed in the first week of the placement period in January.
Top recruiters here were Patni Computers, Accenture, Citibank, HSBC, Godrej, Lifestyle and the Future Group. The highest salary recorded was Rs 9.5 lakh and the average around Rs 6 lakh, according to Mr Ramesh Kharwa, Head, Placements, Welingkar Institute, Mumbai.
