KCCI lauds Budget outlook on wealth creation

The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has termed Budget 2007-08 as a good Budget with long-term perspectives in creating wealth for the nation.
Mr J.P. Menezes, President of KCCI, told Business Line that the focus is on agriculture, education and health. "If you spend on education and health, the nation will be healthy."
In education, the Finance Minister talks about skilled labour. To become a manufacturing country, there is a need for skilled manpower.
The thrust on education will ensure supply of skilled manpower to the country, he added. Ms Latha R. Kini, President of the Dakshina Kannada District Tiny Industries Association, said that all segments have been given importance in the Budget.
Small scale industries
Welcoming the proposal to increase excise duty exemption for small-scale industries from Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.5 crore, she said that it would help many small and tiny industries in Mangalore region.
Thrust on education, as seen in the Budget, will help in creating a lot of jobs in the near future, she added.
Dr N.K. Thingalaya, former Chairman and Managing Director of Syndicate Bank, said that it was a welfare-oriented Budget. The decision to disburse one lakh scholarships will help in bringing down the rate of school dropouts.
The decision to introduce computerised public distribution system will help eliminate duplicate cards in the system, he added.
