Agri-Biz & Commodities - Budget
Focus on farm sector good

Our Bureau

The Chief Executive, ITC (Agri Business), Mr S. Sivakumar, has said that the Budget, with a focus on agriculture, was good. Good attention to this sector would have long-term impact on the economy. The Government was continuing its focus on agriculture credit and irrigation. While increasing agri-credit target to Rs 2.25 lakh crore, the Budget emphasised on strengthening ground water, which is a very important area, he said. The move to revitalise the extension system was a good one. The decision to expand the weather-based agriculture insurance scheme too would benefit the sector.
