Visakhapatnam, March 1

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) introduced a direct air-conditioned bus (Volvo) service, named Garuda, from Visakhapatnam to Bangalore from Thursday. The bus was flagged off by the Executive Director of the Road Transport Corporation, Mr C. Damodara Dass. An adult passenger would have to pay Rs 1,092 and a child Rs 819 to travel from Visakhapatnam to Bangalore (1,150 kms), which was less than what it would cost a passenger to travel in the Prashanti Express (direct train to Bangalore). He said there were plans to introduce Garuda services from Visakhapatnam to Kolkata and Raipur.
