The real estate industry is facing a "severe shortage of skilled civil engineers", according to Mr Manoj Namburu, Chairman and Managing Director of Alliance Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, a three-year-old real estate organisation that had started out with projects worth Rs 83 crore.
Today, the 175-strong company is executing eight projects in Bangalore, Chennai, Mysore and Coimbatore, and has ventures worth Rs 2,200 crore.
"The sudden growth in the real estate and construction industries has created a big gap between supply and demand of a skilled work force," Mr Namburu told Business Line recently.
`Big gap'
Furnishing a benchmark break-up of Alliance's revenue, he said that 75 per cent translated to materials and labour; 15 per cent was margin, while 7 per cent was spent for equipment usage, and the remaining 3 per cent for salaries. Mr Namburu said the percentage for equipment usage was related to "fully mechanised structures, where concreting is done only by pumping".
