Hyderabad March 1 Reliance Industries, which forayed into the retail business in November last by launching Fresh outlets, will now move on to yet another format — supermarkets, where it plans to sell consumer durables and apparels.

Interestingly, the company, which used Hyderabad as a launch pad for the national rollout of its retail food business, has once again chosen the city for the launch of its new format.

The company is likely to open at least two supermarkets this week in Hyderabad. As it did with the food retail business, the company would test the market with these stores, before rolling out other stores in the format in Hyderabad and elsewhere.

Also, like in the Fresh format, the company has put systems in place to offer the best shopping experience, with `lowest' prices, backed by a robust supply chain mechanism.

As in the case of food business where it sells its exclusive brands (Reliance Select and others) of groceries, the supermarkets too would have its own labels, besides selling other brands.

The Rs 25,000-crore retail initiative of RIL includes food and vegetables stores, supermarkets and hypermarkets.
