Kolkata, March 1

Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) and Assam Gas Company Ltd (AGCL) on Thursday entered into a joint venture agreement for formation of a new company to implement the 200-km gas pipeline from Dhuliajan to Numaligarh. The new company will be incorporated this month. AGCL will hold a majority stake of 60 per cent in the joint venture. The rest will be held by NRL.

The Rs 320-crore project is expected to be commissioned by March 2008. The pipeline can be subsequently extended up to Guwahati for distribution of city gas and CNG. According to NRL official sources, the pipeline will lay the foundation for development of new gas-based industries in the North-East.
