New Delhi March 1 The Sports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory sharing with Prasar Bharati) Bill, 2007 and the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill 2007 were introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

The Sports Broadcasting Bill was brought in by the Government soon after a face-off with private broadcaster Nimbus communications and Doordarshan over sharing of live feed of cricket series. Nimbus had taken the matter to court, and the Government had promulgated an Ordinance on February 1, making it mandatory for private producers to share feed with Prasar Bharati of any sporting event deemed of national interest by the Government. Nimbus has challenged the Ordinance in court.

The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill 2007 will allow the Government to open five new NIPER institutions.
