`Give infrastructure status for healthcare'

Dr Prathap C. Reddy, Executive Chairman of Apollo Hospitals group, has asked the Union Government to consider according infrastructure status for the healthcare sector. "A critical component, which will help the healthcare industry take a quantum leap, is according it the infrastructure status. We hope that the Finance Minister will look into this during their Budget discussions," he said, reacting to the Union Budget.

While welcoming the focus given to the sector in the form of increased allocations and impetus on health insurance, he said according it the infrastructure status would give a big push in addressing the healthcare needs of the country. "The emphasis on rural healthcare and communicable diseases will help reduce the disease burden on the lower socio-economic groups," he felt.
