Mangalore port's distinction

New Mangalore Port handled a record quantity of 23,724 tonnes of limestone in m.v. Ince Pacific on March 1. A press release by Mr S. Gopalakrishna, Traffic Manager, New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), said here on Saturday that this was the highest quantity of limestone handled at the port in a day from a single vessel, surpassing the earlier record of 20,174 tonnes handled in m.v. Talisaman on October 24, 2006. The release said the port also achieved a record in terms of quantity handled in a single shift. A record quantity of 9,110 tonnes of limestone was handled in the second shift on March 1, surpassing the earlier record of 6,886 tonnes handled in the first shift on October 24, 2006. It said that m.v. Ince Pacific came from the UAE with 45,405 tonnes of limestone for Jindal Steel in Hospet. .
