New Delhi March 3 The Government has commissioned a study to rationalise various provisions in the rules of origin (ROO) so as to address the industry's concerns over the proliferation of free trade agreements (FTAs) and preferential trade agreements (PTAs) entered by the country.

This was stated by the Commerce Secretary, Mr Gopal K. Pillai, at a seminar on `FTAs and RTAs on Indian Textile and Clothing Industry', organised by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) here today.

The objective is to come up with a unified ROO that could be universally applied for all agreements. This, he said, would simplify the rules and help Indian business.

Mr Pillai urged industry to be more proactive in providing inputs to the Government so that their interests are not bypassed by developed countries.
