Shipping WFS looking at Asia...
Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), having strong cargo handling operations in France, Europe, the US as well as baggage handling operations in Hong Kong, Paris and Vancouver, is believed to be looking into opportunities in India along with other countries in Asia such as China and in Latin America like Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. The company's new strategy has the support of its new parent, LBO France, it is learnt. LBO France acquired WFS in October 2006. WFS' interest in India and other Asian countries has arisen with the launching of its joint venture, Bangkok Freight Services, recently at the new international airport in the Thai capital. The company is also looking at other large cargo hubs in Asia. The new 55,000 sq. m. handling terminal in Bangkok now handles 600-800 tonnes of cargo a day, which is being viewed as the beginning of WFS' growing presence in Asia. WFS undertakes cargo handling operations in 27 locations in Europe, 36 in the North America and Bangkok. In 2006, it handled more than three million tonnes of cargo.
