New Delhi, March 4 Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) has tied up with the Bhartiya Vikas Trust (BVT) for the Solar Energy Promotion and Development Programme (SPDP).

Under SPDP, OBC and the BVT will train bank branch managers in financing solar energy projects; conduct entrepreneurship development programme and organise awareness camps at panchayat level.

Sample solar installations would be provided free-of-cost to select villagers. Both have also agreed to set up a solar innovation and promotion centre in Rajasthan.

OBC has also launched a loan product by the name Oriental Saur Urja Dohan Scheme. The scheme aims at financing solar lighting and water heating systems/equipment.

Mr K.N. Prithviraj, Chairman and Managing Director, OBC, said that the bank has also signed an MoU with IREDA to participate in the implementation of interest subsidy scheme of the Ministry of Non- Conventional Energy for financing solar water heaters to domestic, institutional and commercial users.

Mr K.M. Udupa, Managing Trustee of BVT, said that SPDP will be launched soon in 50 panchayats and the trust would train about 30 local youth in repair and maintenance of the solar systems as part of the entrepreneur development programme.
