Kottayam March 5 There is hardly any transaction for Kottadaka choll as its market has become inactive. Even namesake transaction for choll is absent, said sources close to Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative (Campco), Thrissur.

The prospects for new arecanut have brightened following moderate harvest. The inflow to the market has picked up considerably as the prices hover around Rs 75-78 a kg. At present, the demand of the new variety is better.

The news of curbs on import has instilled fresh confidence among arecanut growers who feel the prices would further flare up. According to reports, the growers are hesitant to release the quantities being held by them.

The regular arrivals are from Nedumangadu, Ernakulam, Pazhanji, Pulamonthole, Sankarankulam and so on. If the new consignments are enough to meet the demand, the possibility of maintaining at least a steady trend in prices cannot be ruled out.
