Hyderabad March 5 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Monday called upon representatives of the Deutsche Bank to consider the option of setting up their global backoffice centre in Hyderabad, assuring them of all necessary Government support in terms of infrastructure and manpower.

The Chief Minister touched on initiatives by companies like Infosys, which is setting up a campus in a 500-acre site with a potential capacity to host about 25,000 people, and ICICI Bank, which is creating a large facility in Hyderabad that could host about 30,000 people to support their overall backup operations.

The Chief Minister, in his inaugural address at `Namaste India', a conference hosted by Deutsche Bank for businesses, said that Hyderabad has emerged as a major destination of IT and financial services companies.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, Dr Reddy said that the State had laid special thrust on the irrigation sector and has allocated about $3 billion (Rs 13,500 crore) for the sector, which is probably 40 per cent more than allocations by other States.

The Chief Minister assured the Deutsche Bank team that the State would provide all the necessary infrastructure and manpower for their requirement, should they decide to set up their centre in Hyderabad. Manpower requirement would be met through linkages with the Jawahar Knowledge Centres, which has the capability to provide suitable students from engineering colleges.

Referring to stumbling blocks, Dr Reddy said that the power sector needs special focus and this is being addressed by a huge capacity addition of about 9,000 MW.
