Drop in imports

RISE IN PRICES: A worker packing cloves at a shop in Thrissur, Kerala. High prices in world market for cloves have resulted in a drop in imports to 3,550 tonnes, valued at Rs 63.73 crore, during April-December of the current fiscal from 4,295 tonnes, valued at Rs 61.87 crore, a year ago. The unit value has shot up to Rs 179.52 a kg in the world market from Rs 144.32 last year.
