Reform in education

The article "Market-oriented reforms can score in education too" (Business Line, March 3) rightly points out that the stress in education should be on quality. Education must develop in students not only knowledge but also talents, entrepreneurial ability, leadership quality and ability to communicate effectively. In world of today, which is going to be globalised more and more in the days to come, English education must be encouraged so that tomorrow's youth can take advantage of emerging employment opportunities.

Ultimately, only universal employment of all can make for real inclusive growth. Hence, the need for English education and excellence in education.

State governments and State-level linguistic organisations fight against the permission given to the private sector to set up English-medium schools and this comes in the way of the private sector's initiatives in the area of education.

These language organisations want only regional language schools whereas their office bearers send their children to private English schools! Market-oriented education's responses to emerging changes will be swift and the students will be enabled to get everything new and up to date. If we are to build up tomorrow's manpower with talent and high quality of efficiency, private sector initiative in education is a must.
