Bangalore, March 6

Placements began at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore today. According to sources, about 20 consulting and financial companies are present and are going to take their pick of the talent on Day Zero and Day One. Lehman Brothers Barclays Consulting, McKinsey, BCG and AT Kearney will make offers in the next 2-3 days. Placement representatives at the Institute, however, refused to divulge details of the placement process. According to past records, about one-third of the batch gets placed on Day Zero.

Placement for the batch graduating (230 of them) in April 2007 is expected to be wrapped up by this weekend, when most students would have accepted either the PPOs (pre-placement offers) or the fresh offers. It may be recalled that for the last two years, IIM-B students have received job offers with salary packages crossing $100,000. "This year we hope to break last year's record salary package of Rs 1 crore ($195,000)," sources said.
