Kolkata March 7 A 12-member UK Ports Mission will be visiting India from March 11 to 15 to meet Indian public and private sector port interests in Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi.

"The principal objectives of the Ports Mission are to meet leading representatives of India's port sector, including port operators, trading houses, contractors and financiers to showcase the interests of the UK's port sector," according to the British Deputy High Commission sources. "The members of the Mission would also like to update themselves on India's ports development and privatisation policy, to learn more of India's port investment opportunities as well as policy and practice on ports security."

Scouting Opportunities

While some of the Mission members already have large investments in India, others are scouting for opportunities. The Mission is being brought to India by the Ports & Terminals Group, a trade association of UK-based port interests dedicated to private sector ports development and expansion of UK business.

Mr John Owens, Managing Director of Portia Management Services Ltd, is the leader of the Mission, which includes, among others, Mr James Sutcliffe, Chairman of the UK Government's Port Advisory Group and Mr Duarte Figueira, Director, Infrastructure Projects, UK Trade & Investment. The Mission will begin its India visit from Kolkata.
