Do you think all companies with capital and technology will be able to survive?
No, said Mr A. Aravamudhan, Executive Vice-President-Human Resources, Lucas TVS, at Combat-2007, an intercollegiate management meet organised by the School of Management, D. G. Vaishnav College, under the aegis of BL Club.
Now, he added, anybody can source capital, goods and technology from various parts of the globe.
The difference, therefore, lies in `talent management.'
However, Mr Aravamudhan warned that talent management is not just talent attraction.
It is not just an HR function but also an entire management function.
Elaborating, he said, "The reality about talent management is that it is a total process. It is not an isolated event. It spreads across the whole company."
The challenge of HR today is to retain employees in the face of rising demand for talent. Another important challenge for HR managers is to bring out employees' lateral talents. Industry requires leaders and not just managers. Colleges, therefore, need to produce more leaders than managers.
Also, managers need to develop talent to nurture talent, he added.
