The State-owned public sector company, India Tourism Development Corporation, has reported an increase in net profit to Rs 64 crore during April 2006 and February 2007 from Rs 28 crore reported during the same period in the previous year.

In a statement, ITDC said that during the lean season (April-October 2006), the Corporation reported a net profit of Rs 18.37 crore as compared to Rs 1.27 crore during the previous year. During the first 11 months, the increase in profits came from all divisions.

The hotels division, particularly The Ashok, Delhi, had the biggest growth in terms of cash, the statement said. The escalation in profit was significant as the Corporation lost the Duty Free business at Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata airports, the statement adds.
