GlobalLogic in strategic alliance with Kewill

To open R&D centre in Pune next month

Pune March 9 Strategic alliance with Kewill, player in supply chain control software and services and opening up of a research and development centre is how GlobalLogic Inc, a player in software product development services, is foraying into Pune.

Talking to presspersons, Mr Sanjay Singh, President, GlobalLogic, said the new R&D centre of GlobalLogic, which would be opened by April this year, would provide the location for Kewill for its product development initiatives.

He said that under the agreement, Kewill would transfer its R&D operations in India to GlobalLogic and Kewill's India team would become part of GlobalLogic personnel.

Currently, Kewill has its own R&D centre in Aurangabad which would be shifted to GlobalLogic centre by April 2007. The 65 personnel, who are on the rolls of Kewill would be joining GlobalLogic, he said.

Mr Sanjay said Pune would be the fourth facility for the company, the others being Noida, Nagpur and Ukraine.

Pune centre

The Pune centre would be built up as a Global Centre of Excellence focussing on areas such as storage and logistics and would have about 200 personnel by March 2008. It may be noted that the Nodia centre is its CoE for technologies such as voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) and Nagpur for mobile and wireless technologies.

He said the facility, which is currently located at Kaserwadi in Pune, would be shifted to Hinjewadi at a later date.

Scouting for the premises is already on. The company is planning to invest about $50 million in the next three years.

It would also be ramping up its headcount from 1,600 to 3,200 by next year.

He added that the company, which has received funding of $12.5 million, has utilised the amount for acquisition of the Kewill's outfits in Ukraine and Aurangabad.
