Ircon may lease, maintain locos for Thailand rlys

New Delhi March 9 Ircon International, the public sector unit under the Ministry of Railways, may lease and maintain locomotives for the State Railway of Thailand.

This was stated by the Minister of State for Railways, Mr R. Velu, in the Rajya Sabha today, while replying to a question.

"The State Railway of Thailand has shown interest in the concept of leasing-cum-maintenance contract and a trial is scheduled to be held in March 2007 for running Ircon locomotives in Thailand," he stated.

Malaysia contract

Ircon is running meter gauge diesel/electrical locomotives on a lease-cum-maintenance contract to Malaysia since 1963, he added.
