RITES to tap export potential

RITES, the consulting arm of Indian Railways, plans to tap export potential for locomotives, coaches and other items manufactured in India in neighbouring countries, Minister of State for Railways Mr R. Velu stated in Rajya Sabha while replying to a question.

The possibilities include: export of diesel locos, wagons, crew rest vans and diesel multiple units to Sri Lanka for proposed rehabilitation of Coastal Line; competing for export of locos and coaches to Bangladesh against global tenders expected to be floated shortly against funding by multilateral financing agencies; proposal to supply in-service diesel locos and coaches to Myanmar; supply of diesel locos to Pakistan and also plans to participate in their future tenders for supply of diesel locos and coaches.
