EU blacklists Pakistan Airlines

The European Union has added Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to the list of "blacklist" carriers for deviating from international safety norms, banning the airline from flying into the world's largest trade bloc on safety grounds. Under the ban, PIA's seven Boeing 777s are only permitted to fly to Europe while the 42 remaining aircraft in the fleet have been stopped due to safety concerns expressed by experts after noting the poor maintenance of the jetliners.

Also, several of the aircraft have been found be very old. The concerns specifically relate to Boeing 747s and Airbus A310s. Meanwhile, the European Commission has removed Thailand's Phuket Air and Africa's DAS Air Cargo from the list of banned carriers, which are believed to have taken decisive action "to remedy their failings".
