Microsoft India centre working on more projects

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad March 11 With over 100 patents and a mandate for research in new technology areas such as Windows Live, the Microsoft India Development Centre (MSIDC) based in Hyderabad continues to expand its operations.

Mr S. Somasegar, Corporate Vice-President, Microsoft, said that unlike services companies where it is a numbers game, the headcount addition would not be in thousands.

Speaking to Business Line, Mr Somasegar, who overseas the developer division and the MSIDC, said that the nature and scope of the research work undertaken at the centre has contributed significantly to the Windows Vista operating system launched earlier this year.

He added that the Microsoft Dynamics Snap project, on which the centre is working, has the mandate to increase productivity and allows information workers to access business application data from an application they are most comfortable with.

The idea is to make it easier to access information, save time, boost productivity and improve processes.

While the Duet project that seeks to collaborate SAP and Microsoft features is jointly supported and developed here, Microsoft has released a new community technology preview of Orcas, a codename for Visual Studio that provides developers with tools.

This is part of Microsoft's efforts to gather information and bring about product enhancements.

The MSIDC has also offered Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista, which helps developers build secure and connected applications.
