Commodity Exchanges Sharad Joshi in Abhijit panel to study futures in agri produce Our Bureau
Mumbai March 12 The Forward Markets Commission has invited public comments to the expert group under Prof. Abhijit Sen, studying the impact of futures trading on price rise in agricultural commodities. The opinions can be sent to the chairman or member/convener by e-mail at abhijit@nic.in, member.fmc@nic.in or ramkwl@yahoo.com within 15 days. Other members of the committee include Mr Sharad Joshi, Member of Parliament, Prof. Siddharth Sinha, IIM, Ahmedabad, Prof. Prakash Apte, Director, IIM, Bangalore and Dr Kewal Ram, member convener. "The committee would study the extend of impact, if any, of futures trading on wholesale and retail prices of agricultural commodities and suggest ways to minimize such impacts," said an FMC release. The committee, which will submit its report in two months, will also consider appropriate measures to raise the participation of farmers in futures trading and benefit from price discovery through commodity exchanges, it said.
