Chilli futures hit upper circuit on NCDEX

Mumbai March 12 Unconfirmed reports of Sri Lanka reducing duty on chilli imports pushed up futures prices on NCDEX to the upper circuit at 5.58 per cent to Rs 4,495 per quintal. Potato Agra and kapaskhali futures on MCX gained 2.27 per cent and 1.98 per cent to Rs 671 per quintal and Rs 386 per 50 kg, respectively.

Maize down

Maize futures dropped 1.52 per cent to Rs 745 per quintal on the Finance Minister's observation that the Government will look into the demand for banning futures trading in maize. Interestingly, Mr Chidambaram had turned down the demand last week.

Lack of demand pushed down pepper futures 2.27 per cent to Rs 11,990 per quintal. Mentha oil futures were down 1.34 per cent to Rs 532 per kg.

Rubber futures on MCX fell 1.8 per cent to Rs 9,115 per quintal on weak international markets, while chana futures on NCDEX lost 9.93 per cent at Rs 2,029 per quintal.

Turnover

NCDEX registered a turnover of Rs 3,744 crore (Rs 2,215 crore, up to 2 p.m.) up to 5 pm on 110,305 (6,749) trades while in MCX it was at Rs 3629 crore (Rs 963 crore up to 2 pm) up to 5 pm on 63,174 (19,923).

Active trades were seen in chana, pepper, guarseeds, refined soya oil, jeera and gold.
