Education States - Karnataka `Research enticing graduates to Australia' Our Bureau
Bangalore March 12 Research is now pulling Indian graduates towards Australia. Wireless and nanotechnology research in Australia are being increasingly chosen by Indian students, said Mr Rahil Mankad, Regional Director, South Asia and Middle East, Griffith University, at a seminar on `Education opportunities in biotechnology and information technology in Australia' held in the city on Monday. Currently there are around 32,000-35,000 Indians studying in Australia, 10 per cent of which are researchers. Job opportunities for IT graduates are also aplenty. According to Mr Henry A. S. Ledlie, Director-India, IDP Education Australia, the kind of jobs now are upscale ones. Middle to senior management level jobs, raking in up to A$50,000 and above, are being offered to Indians in the IT sector. Demand for ICT (Information and Communications Technology) in Australia is at an all-time high, according to speakers at the event. A group of 43 leading institutions from Australia are in India from March 3-16 on a student recruitment programme. With close to 39,000 Indian student enrolments in Australia in 2006-2007, India is the second biggest source country for Australia. These enrolments are growing at over 35 per cent per annum.
